Nothing leaves
your machine.

Vellum is a set of static files. Once they're loaded, everything happens on your computer. This page says exactly what that means.

What lives where

Your character

Stored in your browser's local storage, and in your share link. The link carries its data in the address itself; it isn't stored on any server.

Your frames

Frames you make stay in local storage on your machine. Export one as a file if you want to share it. Library frames are bundled into the app.

Your camera

With face tracking on, Vellum reads webcam frames to find your face and discards them. No frame, image or face data is stored or sent.

Your controls

Hotkeys go through OBS on your machine. Nothing connects through the internet.

What Vellum doesn't have

  • No accounts and no sign-in.
  • No analytics or telemetry in the app.
  • No relay or sync between players. Each player's Vellum stands alone.
  • No uploads. The Frame Library grows by pull request, not by upload.
  • No third-party scripts, fonts or models. Everything is served from vellumhud.com.

Check it yourself

Open your browser's developer tools on the app and watch the Network tab while you play. After the first load, nothing is sent. The app is open source on GitHub, so you can read every line.
